Cultural Identity and Globalization: The Impact of Media on Youth in Developing Countries
Abstract
Globalization and the rapid spread of media have transformed the landscape of cultural identity, particularly among youth in developing countries. Media platforms, ranging from traditional forms such as television and radio to social media and digital streaming services, play a critical role in shaping cultural perceptions, values, and behaviors. This paper investigates the relationship between cultural identity and media globalization, examining how youth in developing countries navigate the dual influences of local traditions and global media content. By analyzing recent research, the study explores both the erosion of cultural identities and the creation of hybrid identities in these regions. The findings indicate that while media globalization often leads to cultural homogenization, youth in developing countries also actively participate in shaping new forms of identity that integrate both local and global elements. Policy recommendations are provided to promote cultural resilience and inclusive media representation in the context of globalization.
